Facebook removes Jamat-e-Islami pages over Kashmir posts, a strange move from Facebook, according to early reports, official page of Jamat-e-Islami Pakistan that had 3.1 Million likes suddenly removed by Facebook the reason behind this act is Jamat-e-Islami’s post in the favor of Kashmir. The official page of Jamat-e-Islami was the second most viewed page of any local political party with respect to likes.
Shamsuddin Amjad head of Jamat-e-Islami social media while talking to the news channel confirmed the development that, “The official page of Jamat-e-Islami removed by Facebook on Wednesday evening”. He further said the other pages that were operated by the party also have been removed from the social media in the past two days. The two pages that were removed by Facebook representing the party’s zonal sections KPK and Women Wing, these pages were removed on Tuesday.
The head of the social media of the Jamat-e-Islami further informed that around two dozen admins of the Jamat-e-Islami’s official page, which was removed by facebook, were also suspended. Jamat-e-Islami is covering and highlights Indian atrocities in held Kashmir this was the reason behind the removal of the Jamat-e-Islami’s official pages by Facebook. The party officials said, “Decision of the Facebook to delete Jamat-e-Islami’s accounts is an attack on the freedom of expression”. They further said,” We haven’t done anything which was become the cause in violation of Facebook’s policy”.
Jamat-e-Islami posted a statement through their official Facebook page of its local Karachi chapter, which declared that Facebook page was removed over the exposure it had been giving over the atrocities by the Government of India in the Indian occupied Kashmir.
In the past few months we observed that, Facebook has repeatedly come under fire for suspending certain Facebook accounts on the social media platform, the accounts which have been suspended or blocked till date had posted comments. Videos, pictures to highlights the action meted out to Kashmiris in the present episode of unrest.
In the recent past, Facebook removed Pakistani top actor Hamza Ali Abbasi’s post in which Hamza had praised a deceased separatist commander Burhan Wani killed by Indian forces in Indian held Kashmir. His account restored after the post removed.
Facebook is the platform to express and share the lot of things without any violence, but the activities that were seen from last few months from Facebook management was not good, due to suspending some accounts and removal of pages from the website is showing that Facebook is not only silencing the voice of Kashmiris but also supports this brutal act which was doing by Indian government in Kashmir. We aware that Facebook- amid pressure from India-has been hitting for Facebook pages and accounts that favor or support Kashmir.
