Lt General Qamar Javed Bajwa chosen as New Army Chief

Lt General Qamar Javed Bajwa chosen as New Army Chief, he is the 16th Chief Army Staff (COAS), he will take command of the Pakistan Army on 29th November from incumbent Army Chief General Raheel Sharif. After weeks of intense speculation and rumours, the Prime Minister of Pakistan Mian Nawaz Sharif has finalized the name of two senior Army Officers as Chief of Army Staff and Chairman Joint Chief Staff Committee.

Lt General Qamar Javed Bajwa who is career infantry officer belonging to the Baloch Regiment has been appointed as the New Army Chief Staff while Lieutenant General Zubair Hayat has been selected for the CJCSC. Both of them Lieutenant General Qamar Javed Bajwa and Lieutenant General Zubair Hayat will be promoted to the rank of four-star generals. They will take up their new posts from Tuesday, 29th November 2016, the day the current Army Chief of Pakistan Raheel Sharif retires. Mamnoon Hussain the President of Pakistan promoted the two Lieutenant generals to the rank of four-star generals on the advice of Mian Nawaz Sharif.

Lieutenant General Qamar Javed Bajwa:

Lt General Qamar Javed Bajwa was commissioned in 16 Baloch Regiment on 24th October 1980. Qamar Javed Bajwa graduated from Canadian Forces Command and Staff College, Toronto, Canada, the Naval Post Graduate University, Monetary, (California), United States of America, National Defence University, Islamabad. Lt Gen Qamar Javed Bajwa has been an instructor at School of Infantry and Tactics, Command and Staff College, Quetta and NDU. Gen Qamar Javed Bajwa has also been Brigade Major of an infantry Brigade and the Chief Staff of Rawalpindi.

Lt General Qamar Javed Bajwa is currently serving at the GHQ as the Inspector of General of Training and Evaluation, the same position General Raheel sharif held before becoming the Army Chief of Pakistan, he has commanded the 10 crops, which is responsible for the area along the LoC-Line of Control.

General Qamar Javed Bajwa has extensive experience of handling affairs in Kashmir and also the northern areas of the country. He has served with a United Nations (UN) mission in Congo as a Brigade commander alongside former Army chief of India General Bikram Singh, who was also a division commander there.

Lieutenant General Zubair Mahmood Hayat:

Lt Gen Zubair Hayat, graduated from Command and Staff College Camberley, Uk and National Defence University, Islamabad. He served on key posts throughout his career. Zubair Hatay served as GOC- General Officer Commanding, Sialkot and led Staff Duties Directorate. In January 2013, Zubair Hayat was elevated to Lieutenant general and was instated as corps commander Bahawalpur.

In December 2013, Lt Gen Zubair was later appointed as the DG-Director General of the Strategic Plans Division. The division established in 2001, for the research and development of Pakistan’s nuclear weapons, and it functions as the secretariat of National Command Authority. General Hayat after his crucial responsibility was appointed as the CGS-Chief of General Staff. Lt. General Zubair hails from a military family and his father retired from the Pakistan Army as a major general. His one brother Lt. General Umar Hayat is serving as the Chairman of Pakistan Ordinance Factory Wah Cantt.

Lieutenant General Qamar Javed Bajwa and Lieutenant General Zubair Hayat, both generals appointed on the key military posts called on Prime Minister mian Nawaz Sharif.
